In producing sounds, transfer of energy occurs by the vibrations of solid and air particles making the sound waves travel. The travel of the sound waves are affected with temperature. Particles get excited in a hotter and warmer temperature, hence, making air rise, solid materials to expand, and fluids to evaporate. While in a colder and lower temperature, particles move slower than the usual, hence, making air sink, solid materials to contract, and fluids to freeze.  

In the aforementioned situation, in the months of August and December are the times the speed of sound is measured. Then, on the month of August, temperature was warmer by 10°C (50°F) than the temperature recorded and experienced by December. The measured speed of sound on the month of August is faster than the measured speed of sound on the month of December since sound waves travel slower on colder temperatures and sound waves travel faster on warmer temperatures.
